Oh hey. Look. A game on the NES from Capcom based on a Disney thing. Those are pretty rare. Right?
Also, side note, I LOVED the purple box thing they used to do.
Fat Cat has kidnapped Gadget and Chip and Dale have to save her. There’s your story.
This is a side scrolling platformer. Chip and/or Dale run, jump, throw things, and avoid enemies and hazards to get to the end of the stage and deal with a boss. That’s the quick and simple version of it. The long and complicated version is the same, really. Don’t know why I said that.
The game has a variety of different stages and you can get through based on the route you choose to take on the world map. You can’t visit every stage in a single play through, if I remember correctly. Do not quote me on that. Unless I’m right. Then yes, please do.
Graphically the game does a really good job of catching the spirit of the show I think. The characters all look pretty good, the enemies are good, the bosses are good and the stages all look pretty good.
The colors, however, seem a little washed out. And that’s an across the board thing with these NES Disney games from Capcom I think. Like the saturation could have been turned up a little bit.
The music is good. Not as good as DuckTales but better than Darkwing and Tale Spin. The theme song from the show is, of course, here and it’s the standout track across the whole game. The aren’t really great tracks or crummy tracks, it’s all pretty average. Nothing stands out like in some of the Mega Man games or DuckTales games.
While it’s not as good as some of the other games Capcom made in and around this era, Chip n Dale is a solid game. It’s not terribly long but it’s a fun trip from start to finish.
